True Love - Brittany & Kirk
This is one of those stories that seems made up it's so perfect. Brittany contacted me this spring to make a painting for her one year anniversary with Kirk. She wanted a portrait of them from the wedding, but with their two great pyrenees also in the painting since the dogs couldn't make it to the wedding. SO fun, so I set to work to put them in the beautiful lush southern landscape their wedding was set in, star magnolias and fireworks to boot! As soon as I send it off to her, Kirk contacts me about making a painting for Brittany!
It took me a few days to respond because I wasn't sure what to tell him--umm, actually your wife is already getting you a painting?! No, I couldn't do that! And as soon as I realized they were living in two different cities for the time being I realized this was a beautiful opportunity. Each person was getting the other the same gift! Kirk wanted a portrait of the couple from the wedding, but to include the amazing decorations Brittany hand made for the wedding ceremony. I painted a simpler, dreamy painting with the focus on them and their connection, in their first dance as a married couple, pinwheels flying overhead, Brittany's gorgeous dress spinning, Atlanta skyscape fading away in the far background, nothing but them and the music of their love in the world.
Well, this was truly a joy to make them. When I mailed it off to Kirk I included a note labelled "Open AFTER the gift-exchange!" telling them about my experience being in on the secret. On their anniversary they exchanged gifts and it was amazing to see that they had each framed the paintings in just about exactly the same way. That totally floored me.
